In 1952, 35 year old Virgil Trucks went 5-19 for the pathetic Detroit Tigers. Virgil was a good pitcher, but he and the Tigers had seen their better days. In May that season Virgil pitched the first no-hitter of his 10 year Major League career. A couple months later he gave up a hit to the first batter he faced and then mowed down 27 straight for a one-hitter. On August 8, Virgil pitched 11 scoreless innings, but Satchell Paige pitched 12 for the win. A week later he pitched his second no-hitter against Mantle’s Yankees. Five wins. Two no-hitters.
